At a regular press conference on the 24th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced that China has successfully eliminated around 628,000 tons of ozone-depleting substances, which represents more than half of the total reduction achieved by developing countries. This effort has also led to the avoidance of 2.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in greenhouse gas emissions, contributing significantly to the global fight against climate change.

Forty years ago, the international community came together to sign the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, followed by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, marking the beginning of a worldwide effort to repair the ozone layer. As the largest developing country, China has played an active role in these global initiatives since joining the conventions, honoring its commitments as a responsible major power. It has consistently shared its experience, offered solutions, and made significant contributions to the global environmental cause.

China has implemented 32 industry-wide phase-out plans and has supported thousands of companies in transitioning to alternative technologies. Notably, 80% of these substitution projects have incorporated low-carbon technologies. Through independent innovation, China has also advanced the green replacement of refrigerants and foaming agents in sectors like air conditioning and refrigeration, achieving both environmental benefits and economic growth in tandem.
