China’s wind power industry continues to expand, with new installation figures reaching record highs. According to the latest 2024 China Wind Power Installation Capacity Statistical Bulletin (hereinafter referred to as the Bulletin), released by the Wind Energy Committee of the China Renewable Energy Society, 14,388 new wind turbines were installed across mainland China in 2024, adding 86.99 gigawatts (GW) of capacity—a 9.6% year-on-year increase.

Onshore wind power accounted for the vast majority of new capacity, reaching 81.37 GW and representing 93.5% of the total installations. Meanwhile, offshore wind power added 5.619 GW, contributing 6.5% to the overall growth.

The Bulletin highlights that 13 wind turbine manufacturers reported new installations in 2024, with the top five companies—Goldwind, Envision Energy, Mingyang Smart Energy, Windey, and SANY Renewable Energy—collectively capturing 75% of the market share.

In the offshore wind sector, seven manufacturers recorded new installations. Mingyang Smart Energy led with 185 newly installed turbines, totaling 1.757 GW and accounting for 31.3% of the offshore market. It was followed by Goldwind, Dongfang Electric, Shanghai Electric Wind Power, CSSC Haizhuang, Envision Energy, and Windey.

China’s wind turbine manufacturers are also making significant strides in international markets. In 2024, five Chinese companies exported wind turbines to 23 countries, with Goldwind and Envision Energy among the key exporters. Demand growth was particularly strong in onshore wind markets across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as offshore wind markets in Europe, Japan, and South Korea.

According to forecasts from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), onshore wind installations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are expected to average 22 GW annually from 2024 to 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11%. Europe’s offshore wind market is projected to add 8.5 GW per year over the same period, with a CAGR of 41%, while Japan and South Korea accelerate offshore wind deployment.
