Iron oxide pigments have excellent light fastness, weather fastness, insolubility and alkali resistance, which means that iron oxide pigments will not deteriorate or fade over time. Iron oxide pigments are often used to color concrete and cement products, producing vibrant, long-lasting colors in cement concrete.
In March 2025, our iron oxide pigment shipments hit a new high. Among them, buyers for cement products accounted for a large proportion, because iron oxide pigments have excellent light fastness and tinting power, and are deeply loved by the cement products industry. So how to use it? We have summarized the following points:
1. Choose the right pigment: Iron oxide pigments are available in a variety of colors, including red, yellow, brown, and black. You can choose the right pigment based on the final color you want.
2. Prepare the cement mixture: You need to prepare the cement mixture, which usually includes cement, sand, and water. Make sure the texture of the mixture is uniform so that the pigment can be evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
3. Add pigment: Gradually add the selected iron oxide pigment to the cement mixture, starting with only a small amount of pigment, and then slowly increase to achieve the color you want. Stir the mixture to ensure that the pigment is evenly dispersed throughout the mixture.
4. Adjust the color: As needed, the color can be adjusted by adding more pigment. The concentration of the pigment will directly affect the depth of the final color.
5. Mix well: Make sure the pigment is completely mixed and even, without obvious color spots or mottled.
6. Application: Apply the colored cement mixture to the items that need to be colored in the desired manner, such as: cement floors, cement walls, cement tiles, etc.
7. Wait and dry: Let the colored cement dry, which usually takes some time, depending on the temperature and humidity. During this period, avoid contact with any object or water to avoid damaging the surface.
Iron oxide pigments can be used directly to color cement, but there are some things to note:
1. When mixing the pigment and cement mixture, make sure to mix thoroughly to obtain a uniform color. Typically, the pigment powder can be added directly to the cement and mixed using a blender or stirring rod.
2. Be careful to avoid inhaling pigment dust and use appropriate protection such as masks and gloves.
3. When carrying out a coloring project, it is best to test it on a small area first to ensure that the selected color is consistent with the expected color and that the performance of the cement is not significantly affected.
4. Note that iron oxide pigments are generally durable and not easy to fade, but the color may change slightly due to time and climate factors.
